Christian Ministries & Prayer Groups

Family@Barker works in unity with the school and Barker Road Methodist Church to provide pastoral care for the boys. We have various prayer groups among parents, give morning devotions at the school assembly, disciple boys who are keen to have a deeper understanding of the Christian faith and occasionally do home visitations to families.

We believe that prayer is just communion with our Heavenly Father.  We claim this verse in 2 Chronicles 7:14,

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land”.

We believe that when we humble ourselves to pray and seek the Lord, He will do great things in the school and amongst our boys.  We meet regularly to pray for the School Faculty, students as well as parents.  There are two prayer groups at Family@Barker: the Father’s Prayer Group and the Friday Prayer Group.

FATHERS’ PRAYER GROUP

“We are male by birth but men by choice” Ed Cole

We are committed to challenge and equip fathers of ACS (BR) students to pray more diligently and effectively.   We also seek to provide a platform for fathers to pray together, because where there is unity and agreement, there will be power and anointing from the Lord.

We are mindful that more than even before, the Lord is looking out for more Christian men to take on their God-given role in leading their families. The “Absent Father” syndrome has resulted, by default, in either the mother, or the children or even the domestic helper in taking on the role of “leadership” at home.  As a result, there is tension in the family, which ever so often manifests in the behaviour of our children at schools.  If there is no redress, such behaviour will permeate into our community and society at large; taking its toll in future generations.  If Christian men are providing leadership at home, not only will their households be blessed, the community and nation will be blessed too.

We meet every 3rd Saturday morning of the months of the School ie except during the School holidays.  The venue will be the School Library on the 4th level of the Teaching block.

FRIDAY PRAYER GROUP

We are a group of praying parents meeting weekly to intercede for the school, staff and students.  We believe that there is an urgent need to uphold this generation of students in prayer.  The other aim is for us to encourage one another as we journey with our children and to bring them up in the Lord.

Our Praying Parents meet at 7.30am-9am at the OBA Lounge (Swimming Complex) every week during term time.  We start our meetings with a time of praise and worship and a short devotion to center ourselves in Christ.  We then break up into groups of three’s and four’s to pray for the specific needs of the school, staff as well as individual needs.

There are also opportunities for our prayer group to minister directly to our students.  This is especially during their year of taking the major national exams; the N level as well as the O level exams.

Every year, we have the opportunity to pray with the graduating cohort in their classrooms.  Then during the two months before their exams when the students stay back in school for subject consultations and Family@Barker provide tea snacks for them, we will be there to engage the gentlemen and pray with them.

COMBINED PRAYER MEETINGS

We are also blessed to be part of a larger community-the ACS Family of schools. The six ACS schools will each host a Combined Prayer Meeting through the year. The dates of the Combined Prayer Meetings for 2019 will be posted as soon as they are available
